More about the opportunity
In this role you will work within the Aero Development Team, employing cutting-edge techniques to deliver aerodynamic performance to the race car. This will involve analyzing computational and wind tunnel data and fostering innovation throughout the design and development process. Team members are encouraged to challenge established thinking and share their ideas to create an environment where everyone can contribute to our shared success.
- Take ownership of the aerodynamic development of a defined car area (e.g. front wing, bodywork, rear corner), while providing technical leadership and day-to-day direction to a small team of engineers.
- Deliver aerodynamic performance to the race car, by analyzing CFD and wind tunnel data as well as innovating throughout the design and development process
- Build an understanding of the aerodynamic structures and behaviors around the race car
- Work with management groups to construct a mutually agreed and communicated aerodynamic development plan
- Suggest, investigate and, where applicable, implement new methods and processes to improve efficiency of aerodynamic ideas generation, design, testing, analysis and reporting
- Contribute to collaborative discussions and efforts to improve whole-car performance, offering ideas and taking on board feedback from others
- Communicate key findings, opportunities and threats to the Lead Engineer
REQUIREMENTS
What do we need from you?
- A degree in a relevant discipline (Aerodynamics/Aeronautics) or similar, or equivalent
- Strong understanding of the Formula 1® Technical Regulations
- Excellent knowledge of CFD methods and analysis of CFD data
- Experience in leading, managing and directly contributing to aerodynamic development, including planning, organizing, and managing aerodynamic development projects against pre-agreed targets
- Well versed with 3D CAD software (preferably 3DExperience/CATIA)
- Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and leadership skills, including the ability to line manage / lead teams effectively
- Able to perform duties in a timely manner with minimal errors
- Clear and concise communication, verbally and written, including with key stakeholders and directors
- Strong levels of IT skills including MS Office, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Positively contribute to an open and inclusive culture
- Willing to travel and work flexible hours during race season
